Days of Caring 2011

PROJECTS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

September 9th & 10th, 2011 mark the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties' 5th annual Days of Caring (DOC). On these days, volunteers will join United Way partner agencies to work on one-time service projects and will show what it means to Live United.  This is a great opportunity to get a first-hand look at where your donations are going and how your donations are helping our local agencies.

Participating agencies are matched with volunteer groups from local businesses who choose to give their time and services in an effort to impact our community’s needs. Keep in mind that all projects should stay within a four-hour time period, alternate project start times may be agreed upon by individual agencies and their volunteer team.

Days of Caring is a unique opportunity for companies and their employees to work together with local agencies to achieve a common goal that ultimately betters our community.  It is a wonderful team-building activity that also markets your company favorably to the community.

Complete project descriptions can be here.  Please review this list of projects with your team and complete the attached Participation Form to adopt a project and confirm your organization’s service commitment. Please note that we will be updating this website daily and projects are on a first come, first serve basis.

Project: General exterior “spruce up” for our DeLand facility (fondly known by staff as the CAC Gingerbread House due to its’ design): this would include light landscaping, yard clean up, exterior window washing, and light touch up painting of railings and columns on the front porch.
Who will benefit:  Our DeLand facility serves our child abuse, sexual assault, and special needs families in western Volusia County.  This project will benefit those we serve and the dedicated staff who work in our DeLand site. Our agency does not have much in the way of a budget for projects that enhance the facilities' environment where children and families come to receive their services, as our funds are focused on direct family violence prevention and intervention service provision. Therefore, we rely on volunteers to assist us in these types of projects.  A volunteer is currently painting a child-friendly mural in the lobby of the DeLand Center. We would like to soften the presentation of the front entry way of the building as well with this project in to maintain a calm and welcoming environment for the victims we serve. The number of children and families served varies slightly from year to year, however, our DeLand facility serves no less than approximately one thousand individuals per year through one of the three programs that provides services through that location.  The combined Children's Advocacy Center locations and programs served over 7000 people between July 2010 and June 2011.
